The top 5 moments from the 2024 BET Awards

An all-star tribute to Usher, Taraji P. Henson's epic wardrobe changes, and standout performances from R&B's hottest newcomers.

The 2024 BET Awards was, as usual, a joyous if chaotic celebration of Black culture. Victoria Monét was arguably the star of the night, winning Video of the Year and performing twice, as a solo act and as part of the Lifetime Achievement Award winner Usher — both of which made our best moments list. Check them all out below.

Two of the hottest new acts in pop and R&B (though Victoria Monét has been around for years) woke up and chose violence. BET really pulled out all the stops to honor Lifetime Achievement Award winner Usher, as they should, with an all-star tribute to the singer featuring Childish Gambino, Keke Palmer, Marsha Ambrosious, Chlöe, Tinashe, and Latto, but Teyana Taylor and Victoria Monét stole the show with a sapphic, acrobatic interpretation of the Usher hit "Bad Girl."

People love them some Lauryn Hill, and especially her seminal 1998 album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, but let's be real — most of y'all didn't think she was going to show up. At least not on time. But show up she did, with her son YG Marley and surprise guest Wyclef Jean, providing a show-closing set that had the audience at the BET Awards on their feet and singing along.
