Margaret Atwood and Naomi Alderman will talk feminist dystopias at New York event

Margaret Atwood, the brilliant mind behind The Handmaid’s Tale, is headed stateside this fall for a conversation with her protege, Naomi Alderman, author of the forthcoming novel The Power, EW can announce exclusively.

Presented by the Strand Bookstore on Nov. 13 at The New School in New York City, Atwood and Alderman will discuss feminist dystopias (a subject with which they’re both intimately familiar) and The Power, which poses the question, “What would happen if women suddenly possessed a fierce new power?”

The Power, which will be published in the U.S. Oct. 10, is the winner of the 2017 Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction. The television rights to the book have already been snapped up by Sister Pics. Alderman is also the co-creator of the app Zombies, Run!

Atwood’s Handmaid’s Tale, of course, has been adapted into a hit series on Hulu starring and produced by Mad Men’s Elisabeth Moss.

Atwood and Alderman connected under the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative, an international arts philanthropy that pairs master artists with young talents for a year of one-to-one creative exchange. Atwood and Alderman worked together as part of this program from 2012 to 2013.
