Margaret Atwood and Naomi Alderman will talk feminist dystopias at New York event

The authors of 'The Handmaid's Tale' and 'The Power' will come together at The New School

Margaret Atwood, the brilliant mind behind The Handmaid’s Tale, is headed stateside this fall for a conversation with her protege, Naomi Alderman, author of the forthcoming novel The Power, EW can announce exclusively.

Presented by the Strand Bookstore on Nov. 13 at The New School in New York City, Atwood and Alderman will discuss feminist dystopias (a subject with which they’re both intimately familiar) and The Power, which poses the question, “What would happen if women suddenly possessed a fierce new power?”

The Power, which will be published in the U.S. Oct. 10, is the winner of the 2017 Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction. The television rights to the book have already been snapped up by Sister Pics. Alderman is also the co-creator of the app Zombies, Run!

Atwood and Alderman connected under the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative, an international arts philanthropy that pairs master artists with young talents for a year of one-to-one creative exchange. Atwood and Alderman worked together as part of this program from 2012 to 2013.

This event is presented in partnership with The New School, and a copy of The Power must be purchased to attend. Head to the Strand Bookstore’s site for more information.

Please note that payment is required for all online event orders at the time of checkout. The event will be located at The New School, in the Tishman Auditorium, 63 Fifth Avenue at 13th Street, NYC 10003.
