Listen to Alicia Keys narrate the life story of Nina Simone

From one “Girl on Fire” to another, Alicia Keys is narrating Nina Simone’s life story for the Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls audiobook.

Keys has signed on along with Ashley Judd, Rowan Blanchard, and more to bring new voices to Francesca Cavallo and Elena Favilli’s best-selling, Kickstarter-funded book series. Like modern-day fairy tales, Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls and Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls 2 highlight the lives of 200 influential women throughout history, including artists, athletes, activists, and lawmakers.

In an exclusive audio clip, Keys reads from Simone’s story and shares the legendary singer’s musical beginnings, as well as her civil rights activism. “Nina poured her passion and pride into her music, and she could not stand racism,” Keys narrates. “She wanted black people to be proud, to be free, to embrace their talents and their passions free of judgement.”

In a statement to EW about the project, Keys said, “Being a rebel girl means following your heart, finding your passion, and not having to follow the rules. Rebel girls change the world.”
