New Harry Potter book covers for Prisoner of Azkaban are packed with Easter eggs

U.K. publisher Bloomsbury continues its mission of releasing 20th anniversary book covers for J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series. After Philosopher’s/Sorcerer’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets, the third installment in the saga, Prisoner of Azkaban, gets a new makeover — and a bunch of Easter eggs, too.

Artist Levi Pinfold designed four new covers for the novel based on the four Hogwarts houses: red for Gryffindor, yellow for Hufflepuff, blue for Ravenclaw, and green for Slytherin. Each cover holds a black dog — the Animagus form of Sirius Black — in its center, though their surroundings change.

The Gryffindor edition features James Potter’s Animagus form (a stag), the scene of Harry conjuring his Patronus, and a lonely Hagrid skulking about the branches. Hufflepuff’s features the Knight Bus, famed Hufflepuff Cedric Diggory playing Quidditch, and the cloaked Dementors; Ravenclaw’s comes with Divination Professor Sybill Trelawney, the towers of Azkaban prison, and a mid-flight Buckbeak; and Slytherin’s flaunts Buckbeak executioner Walden MacNair, Peter Pettigrew in Animagus form (a rat), and the Wolfsbane Potion Professor Snape brews to temporarily relieve Professor Lupin’s werewolf symptoms.

As an added treat, each cover comes with an animal on the binding to represent the correlating Hogwarts house: a lion for Gryffindor, a badger for Hufflepuff, an eagle for Ravenclaw, and a snake for Slytherin.

Pre-orders are available now through Bloomsbury House’s website for the June 13 drop, though the offer of a bonus house pin is only available to residents of the U.K. and Ireland. The previous house hardcover editions were released in the U.S., so there’s no reason to suspect these wouldn’t be either.
