Kimmy’s getting a book!

On Tuesday, Little, Brown Books announced the publication of The Legends of Greemulax by Kimmy Schmidt. Fans of Netflix comedy Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt will remember the title as the fantasy-adventure kids’ book Kimmy (Ellie Kemper) penned during the last season that endeavors to teach young boys about sexism and equality.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt offers a unique brand of humor to viewers while also dealing with tough topics sensitively, and we’re thrilled to give fans another avenue to immerse themselves in Kimmy’s world with The Legends of Greemulax,” said Farrin Jacobs, Vice President/Editorial Director of Little, Brown Books for Young Readers. “In her completely delightful debut novel, Kimmy tackles pertinent gender stereotyping concerns for kids with enough adventure, comedy, and heart to make the lesson go down easy for readers of all ages. We couldn’t be more pleased to welcome her to the Little, Brown Books for Young Readers author list.”

In recognition of this book’s release and because April is Child Abuse Prevention month, NBCUniversal will be making a donation in support of Prevent Child Abuse America. The Legends of Greemulax will simultaneously release in hardcover and ebook.

According to Little, Brown’s release, “in the world of Greemulax, legend has it that a dragon attack killed the tight-knit community’s girls and women. The men, ruled by Grabagorn Prime, have lived in mourning and anger ever since. But when main character Penn accidentally catches a girl named Kristy in his dragon trap, he starts to question everything he thought was true. Together, Penn and Kristy set off on an adventure that will take them to a tugboat in a tree and through a treacherous lake of pudding toward a candy forest guarded by dragons that might hold the answers they seek. All the while, Penn dreads the day that he will become a Grabagorn, a powerful hairy blue monster, as all boys in Greemulax do. As Penn transforms, Kristy seems to fade away into nothing. The duo must reach their destination and rewrite the rules of Greemulax before it’s too late.”

The real-life edition of the book will be written by New York Times bestselling author Sarah Mlynowski (the Whatever After and Magic in Manhattan series).

Let’s hope — like in the show — the Floridian theme park is to follow!

The Legends of Greemulax hits shelves April 2019.
