Justin Bieber confirms he's battling and 'overcoming' Lyme disease

Justin Bieber is battling Lyme disease.

The singer confirmed the news Wednesday on Instagram, where he shared a photo of a TMZ article with the headline, "Justin Bieber battling Lyme disease and winning." In the caption, he explained what his life has been like since receiving the diagnosis and said his upcoming YouTube docuseries Justin Bieber: Seasons will further address his health issues.

"While a lot of people kept saying justin Bieber looks like s—, on meth etc. they failed to realize I've been recently diagnosed with Lyme disease, not only that but had a serious case of chronic mono which affected my, skin, brain function, energy, and overall health," he shared with his fans. "These things will be explained further in a docu series I'm putting on YouTube shortly.. you can learn all that I've been battling and OVERCOMING!!"

He adds, "It's been a rough couple years but getting the right treatment that will help treat this so far incurable disease and I will be back and better than ever NO CAP"

According to the Centers for Disease Control, Lyme disease "is caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi and rarely, Borrelia mayonii. It is transmitted to humans through the bite of infected blacklegged ticks. Typical symptoms include fever, headache, fatigue, and a characteristic skin rash called erythema migrans."

Bieber's 10-part docuseries, premiering Jan. 27, will see the young superstar return to the platform where his career launched with an in-depth, "all access" look at his life. YouTube promises to also give fans insight into his private life, including never-before-seen video of his wedding to Hailey Baldwin.

Ahead of celebrating the new year, Bieber announced that a new album and tour were coming in 2020. He released his new single "Yummy" earlier this month.
