Christina Applegate's social media has been hacked by someone peddling cryptocurrency

Update: A representative for Christina Applegate has confirmed that the issue "has been resolved."

Someone call Veronica Corningstone, because Christina Applegate's account on X — the social media platform formerly known as Twitter — has been hacked.

A rep for Applegate confirmed the hack to EW and said that they're currently in the process of "trying to get that fixed." Applegate's account, which has over 1.6 million followers, began posting a collection of out-of-character messages about cryptocurrency last night.

One such message, which featured a link to the NFT marketplace OpenSea, read, "I just joined [OpenSea] nd i am loving NFTs! I almost lost my NFTs a few days ago, I had to migrate my NFTs cause of the new contract upgrade! Upgrade contracts with [OpenSea] !!!!! DONT LOSE YOUR MONEY!!!! I CARE ABOUT ALL MY FANS!!! I ❤ CRYPTO! #CRYPTO #Bitcoin #Ethereum."

The account then doubled-down on the above message by re-posting it with an additional note in a since-deleted tweet: "Comment 'applegate' letter by letter on my tweet, and i will choose 50 people that did to follow back!"

When Applegate's sudden crypto fascination, understandably, led her fans to suspect that her account had been hacked, the hacker(s) involved denied the suggestion in a subsequent post.

"Everyone, i am not hacked. I have simply been struggling with my illness and have been looking into internet currency (like Cryptocurrency) please stop this accusation," it read, referring to Applegate's ongoing battle with multiple sclerosis. "Thank you. I don't like being made fun of."

The hacker also responded to several fans — including one that recommended a book on cryptocurrency to the actress — in addition to its crypto tweets. As of Tuesday afternoon, the tweets are still available to view on Applegate's account.
