Comic-Con 2016: Colony reveals Bowman's missing son in spoof trailer

Colony dropped a major spoiler during the USA show’s Comic-Con panel on Thursday, revealing where the Bowman’s long-lost teenage son Charlie has been — and you may recognize him.

In a spoof trailer for the second season of Colony, Silicon Valley star Kumail Nanjiani portrays Charlie, who comes back from the Santa Monica bloc an obviously changed man. Will (Josh Holloway) and Katie (Sarah Wayne Callies) are so relieved to have their son home, they don’t notice he’s an entirely different person.

Unfortunately, executive producers Carlton Cuse and Ryan Condal declined to reveal any actual scoop about Charlie during the panel, instead teasing that the other Bowman son Bram (Alex Neustaedter), who went into the tunnel in the finale, will be in big trouble this year. “Bram features very prominently in this season’s story,” Condal said. “He’s in a lot of trouble. It’s a harrowing tale for him.”

All this equates to more strain on the Bowman’s marriage, especially in light of Will’s confirmation that Katie is working with the Resistance. “Katie is in a dangerous position because Will obviously figured out what was going on with the RAP and Katie at the end of the first season,” Callies said. “That may mean that other people that Will works with have an understanding of what’s going on, which puts her in a dangerous position. Where we find Katie in the second season, she’s more vulnerable and alone than she’s ever been… She’s alone, which makes you very vulnerable to being forced into collaboration.”

As for the alien hosts, which were only partially revealed via the dead RAP, Cuse said they’ll play a bigger role in season 2. “The aliens were not a big part of the first season, but definitely the second season there’s a lot more science fiction,” he says, keeping mum on whether we’ll actually see them in all their glory. “We are definitely ramping up the science fiction side of things.”

Also on tap for the second season, we’ll learn more about the wall that separates each bloc, along with how each bloc is governed differently — which Cuse noted was somewhat of a social experiment. “The world is going to open up a lot this year,” Condal said. “We’re going to see into Santa Monica, and we’re also going to see outside the colony. There’s a story that takes place outside the walls.” Cuse added: “It’s a little more dystopic this year.”

Colony will return in 2017 on USA.
