Comic-Con 2016: 'Power Rangers' stars on acting opposite Bryan Cranston

More than two decades ago, Bryan Cranston lent his voice to the Power Rangers TV series, and he’ll soon be returning to the franchise on the big screen.

In the upcoming reboot, the Breaking Bad star will star as Zordon, the Rangers’ mentor. But as new team members Becky G, Dacre Montgomery, Ludi Lin, and Naomi Scott revealed when they stopped by EW’s studio at San Diego Comic-Con, they initially had no idea who would end up playing their wise guru.

“We spent a bit of time sort of collaborating through the rehearsal process with other people before it was initially established that he was going to be playing the role,” Montgomery said. “So we had a bit of contact with these other actors, and suddenly he came into the mix, and we were all like, ‘Oh my God, it’s Bryan Cranston.’”

The new Power Rangers also discussed what it was like to work with Elizabeth Banks, who’s mean and green as the villainous Rita Repulsa.

“Actually the first time I saw her, period, was in the suit,” Lin said. “Right away we’re into it. And I was like, that’s not Elizabeth. That’s Rita. So I met Rita before I met Elizabeth.”
