Not all apocalypse based shows have to be dark, as seen with The Last Man on Earth. The comedy delivers shock and giggles, but left off on a foreboding moment of unease.

Stars Will Forte, Kristen Schaal, January Jones, Mel Rodriguez, Cleopatra Coleman, and Mary Steenburgen stopped by EW’s studio at San Diego Comic-Con o Saturday to hint at how season 3 will pick-up after the intense ending to season 2.

The series takes place two years after a virus has wiped out most of the human race, where Phil Miller (Forte) believes to be the only survivor. Except, he is not alone, and the remaining survivors are not exactly the kind of people he wants to learn to live through an apocalypse with. When audiences last saw the gang, a group of mysterious individuals wearing hazmat suits were on the horizon, leaving everyone wondering who or what they could be. “A tall person with a cat on the shoulders,” said Schaal. “Yeah, that’s what first comes to mind,” added Steenburgen.

Forte, the series creator and star, tried to give as much insight as possible without spoiling. “We just locked down one of the people that will be in the hazmat suits,” he explained. “So we’re excited for people to see who this man or woman is!” As far as the fate of Phil’s brother Mike (played by Jason Sudeikis) mum is still the word. “It seems like a very nice ending to Mike’s life and story,” Forte added. “We do never see him take his last breath, so we don’t know.”

With season 3 still on the horizon, the cast have their own desires on what it could include. “I want to stretch my abilities as an actress, you know, to see what I can do,” said Schaal. “I want to be really vulnerable.” Aside from the jokes, they want to bring some reality and drama into the situation. “We have several ideas that are similar in tone to when Pete is operating,” added Forte. “A real situation where people would have to deal with where it might not seem at home in a comedy.”
