Planet Hulk: Thor 3 props at Comic-Con tease comic inspiration

It looks like the Asgardian Avenger is actually heading to Planet Hulk. Saturday on the convention floor of San Diego Comic-Con, the Marvel booth revealed new props from Thor: Ragnarok: armor and weapons for what Marvel’s vice president and executive editor for digital media Ryan Penagos called “gladiator Hulk armor.”

The Planet Hulk story line in the comics is an exciting arc for the giant green rage monster. The Avengers, fearing the untamable power of the Hulk, blast him into space. He then finds himself on Planet Sakaar, where he’s forced to compete in gladiatorial matches in the Imperial Arena for the entertainment of the corrupt government.

Plant Hulk rumors first sprung up in 2013, but Marvel never went ahead with a standalone Hulk film — and instead made Hulk a key part of the upcoming Thor film.

Mark Ruffalo returns as Bruce Banner/Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok after the character was last seen going off the grid in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, and Idris Elba also return alongside newcomers Cate Blanchett as Hela, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Jeff Goldblum as The Grandmaster, and Karl Urban as Skurge.

Directed by Taika Waititi, the film has already begun production in Australia ahead of its release on Nov. 3, 2017.
