Let the water wars begin

“Fear creates fury.” Remember that when Fear the Walking Dead returns for the back half of season 3. Until then, AMC has unleashed the first look at those episodes in a new trailer that debuted at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday.

Fans should turn away now if they haven’t witnessed the two-hour midseason finale. For the rest of us, a quick recap: The feud between Walker’s people at Black Hat Reservation and the Ottos at Broke Jaw Ranch exploded. Bodies piled up, there was some biological warfare, and death finally came for Jeremiah Otto at the end of Nick’s gun barrel.

In the new footage, we see the aftermath as the reservation’s forces combine with the ranch to maintain peace. However, peace doesn’t come for those unwilling to embrace it. Tensions are heating up — and they’re heating up fast — as their water supply dwindles. But who maintains control of the water supply? That would be Lola, who returns again, this time crossing paths with Madison.

Reunions will be had as Ofelia, her father Salazar, and Victor come back into the fold, but the Clarke family still has to keep an eye on those Otto boys, believing their father to have shot himself to save his people. How will Nick hold up against the weight of the secret he’s now forced to keep?

“It’s going to get darker and deeper,” showrunner Dave Erickson told EW. “I think there’s now a big secret. They’ve committed a murder, and there’s going to be a conspiracy that surrounds that. And I think one of the big questions of the back half is how is Nick and ultimately, Alicia and Madison are going to be able to process what they’ve done, and then what happens when the sons learn how the father really died.”

Fear the Walking Dead season 3 returns Sunday, Sept. 10 at 9 p.m. on AMC. Watch the new footage above.
