Preacher cast teases 'really filthy' sex scene

Preacher is midway through its second season, which has been bonkers already (hello, Adolf Hitler in Hell), but apparently, there’s more madness on the way.

When the cast of the AMC comic book series dropped by Entertainment Weekly‘s San Diego Comic-Con lounge Thursday, EW’s Kyle Anderson asked them if there are things they’ve been able to do on Preacher that they’ve never been asked to do before. This prompted Joseph Gilgun, who plays the vampire Cassidy, to tease an upcoming sex scene that shocked him, especially because it was written by one of their writers who is “quite religious.”

“She wrote a really filthy sex scene with a certain someone — I’ll not go into who because that would just completely ruin everything — but I just couldn’t believe that we were going to be able to put this on the TV,” said Gilgun. “I was like, ‘How the f– are we going to get this on TV, man?’… It’s still really shocking!”

Unfortunately, neither Gilgun, Dominic Cooper, Ruth Negga, nor Graham McTavish would elaborate more on this sex scene beyond a series of whistles. According to them, you’ll understand what the whistles mean once you see it. So, keep an eye out for that.

“It’s genuinely shocking,” adds McTavish.

In less salacious news, you can also expect to learn more about Jesse’s (Cooper) backstory as his road trip with Cassidy and Tulip (Negga) continues in the back half of the season. “We learn a lot about the reason behind them [Jesse and Tulip] and why their relationship is what it is. You learn about his relationship with the father and why this quest for God is so important for him,” said Cooper. “I think it uncovers, really, the dynamic between the three of them and the secrets that they’re hiding. So, we do constantly flash back to their past.”
