Exiting Doctor Who star reveals advice he gave to first female Doctor

Departing Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi says he has high hopes for his successor.

Capaldi recently chatted with actress Jodie Whittaker, who will play the BBC sci-fi series’ first female Doctor, to share a bit of advice.

“I said just enjoy it because it’s absolutely incredible,” Capaldi said during an interview at EW’s video lounge at Comic-Con in San Diego. “She’ll be fabulous. It was lovely to speak to her and see how much affection and passion she has for the show. She’s going to be brilliant.”

Capaldi will make his final appearance as the 12th incarnation of titular Time Lord in the upcoming Christmas special, which also stars David Bradley as the First Doctor — a character originated by William Hartnell in the 1960s. “That’s the first Doctor I remember,” Capaldi said. “The show started when I was 5 years old, and I have this really distant memory of this strange, rather grumpy man in the TARDIS, but him being rather magical. … For me, it was lovely. It was like full-circle.”
