The next chapter in the Descendants franchise has only just begun, and the Descendants: The Rise of Red stars are already looking ahead to a sequel after that twist ending.

The fourth movie musical in the popular franchise about the children of Disney characters introduces the next generation of Villain Kids with the titular Red (Kylie Cantrall), the rebellious daughter of the ruthless Queen of Hearts (Rita Ora), and her frenemy-turned-BFF Chloe (Malia Baker), the perfectionist daughter of Cinderella and the now-King Charming (played by Brandy and Paolo Montalban, reprising their roles from Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella).

Before they can even settle in at Auradon Prep, the two unlikely allies are forced to team up when Red's mother stages a coup against Auradon and threatens to behead Cinderella. The duo uses a magical pocket watch to travel back in time to undo the traumatic event that set Red’s mother down her villainous path in the first place, ultimately changing history to turn her into a heroic Disney Princess instead.

But they don't live happily ever after: The movie ends on a cliffhanger teasing that more danger is coming since Red and Chloe mess with time travel. While Disney+ has not yet announced plans for a sequel, Cantrall promises Entertainment Weekly, "Oh yeah, the story's not over. There's a lot that Red and Chloe have got to do and undo from the time travel of it all. So it's definitely not over."

Ora tells EW that she's "100 percent" ready to return for another movie as well. "I'd love to come back if there's a sequel to this. Keep this space open," she says.

Baker is also ready to return to Auradon for a sequel and has some ideas on what that could look like. "I’m such a fan of this franchise," she says. "I would love to see Chloe’s journey continue and see how her home life has changed since seeing a new perspective on her mom, and how the fabric of time has impacted it all. I would also love to see her get a little villainy. Who knows? Maybe she learned a little too much from the Merlin Villain Kids and Red. The writers are such experts in their crafts that whatever ends up happening I know I’m sure to love!"

Cantrall also wants to see more of Red's relationship with her mom in future movies. "Now that they solved their issues and the Queen of Hearts is now sweet, I think that'll be cool to explore," she adds. "And her relationship with Chloe now that they're friends and everything. And maybe even a love interest for Red would be really fun."

Descendants: The Rise of Red seems to tie up all loose ends...until the very final moment, which teases that more trouble is brewing. After Red and Chloe are shocked to realize they have actually been sent back to the time when their parents were students at Auradon Prep, they meet the teen versions of Cinderella, Charming, Queen of Hearts (who went by Bridget back then), and many other iconic Disney characters. There, they are able to figure out the moment that turned Bridget into the cold Queen of Hearts: Uliana (Dara Reneé), younger sister of Ursula, pranked and humiliated Bridget in front of the whole school at the Castlecoming dance, breaking her heart and turning her into a villain who hates love.

Red and Chloe work together to stop Uliana and the other V.K.'s from pulling off the prank, getting them sent to detention for a year and clearing the way for Bridget to have a good, totally not traumatic time at the Castlecoming dance. Red is still worried that her mother will be a cold, ruthless villain when they return to the present, but she is delighted to discover the Queen of Hearts is now a loving, joyful ruler and mother, and she is no longer threatening to behead Cinderella.

So by the end of the movie, Red and Chloe change history and save their mothers, and all of Auradon Prep has a dance party to celebrate. But then Uma (China Anne McClain) warns in a voiceover that even though everyone got what they wanted, "getting what you want can be dangerous...especially when you mess with the fabric of time."

"You didn't think that was the end of the story, did you?" Uma says, her ominous laugh ending the movie.

Descendants: The Rise of Red is now streaming on Disney+.
