Nicole Kidman on Big Little Lies season 2: 'We want to do it!'

A second season of Big Little Lies may not be as far away as we think…

On the red carpet at Sunday’s Emmys, E!’s Giuliana Rancic caught up with three of the show’s stars – Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern, and Nicole Kidman – about the possibility of a second season of the HBO miniseries.

“We want to do it! We love these women and it’s just trying to move pieces and it’s complicated,” said Kidman, who is nominated for her haunting performance as Celeste, a woman in an abusive marriage. “We love that people want us to do it.”

It’s definitely no secret that the women get along, with Dern saying, “It’s a blessing that these ladies got together and wanted to make this.”

Although she couldn’t confirm or deny the possibility of a second season, a tight-lipped Witherspoon also added: “We have the best time. We’re all really good friends and it’s really fun.”

Rumors of a second season have been bouncing around Hollywood since the show first premiered back in February. Liane Moriarty, author of the best-selling novel which the series is based on, is reportedly at work thinking deeply about the characters and where they could go after the explosive season 1 finale.

All three actresses are nominated tonight for their performance in the wildly popular HBO miniseries, with the show racking up a total of 16 total Emmy nominations, including Best Limited Series and Best Writing for a Limited Series.

Dern won on Sunday, the first of the Big Little Lies women to take home an award, and said backstage after her supporting actress victory that season 2 remained a bit up in the air.

“Season 2 if we were to do it again and that was not the intention, I think all the actors feel ecstatic because we love these characters, but that’s up to Liane if she would want to come up with another story,” she said.
