Best of Comic-Con 2022

For the first time in three years, Comic-Con is back! If you couldn't make the trek to San Diego, Entertainment Weekly has got you covered.

Below, we rounded up all the highlights — including the biggest headlines and scoops revealed exclusively to EW about Dungeons & Dragons, Teen Wolf, and more live from our Comic-Con headquarters at the Hard Rock Hotel. Go ahead and geek out.

DAY 1

Sarah Michelle Gellar crashes the Teen Wolf Comic-Con panel to announce her role in Wolf Pack

SMG is returning to the world of supernatural TV! The Buffy the Vampire Slayer star will appear in the upcoming Teen Wolf spin-off series Wolf Pack, she revealed when she crashed the Hall H panel for Teen Wolf: The Movie on Thursday.

"Everyone knows that Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a huge influence on Teen Wolf," creator Jeff Davis said on stage. "So I always thought it would be amazing if we could bring Sarah Michelle Gellar back to a horror show." The Paramount+ series will follow four teenagers united by the bite of a werewolf. Gellar (who also exec produces) joins the cast — which includes Armani Jackson, Bella Shepard, Chloe Rose Robertson, and Tyler Lawrence Gray — as arson investigator Kristin Ramsey.

Regé-Jean Page confesses he 'had the best ass of my life' while making Dungeons & Dragons

Kicking off Comic-Con with the kind of heat we dream about, Bridgerton's Regé-Jean Page sent a panel for Paramount's upcoming Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves into the red with a comment about his buns of steel.

"I had the best ass of my life," he admitted to laughs, attributing his tight tush to plenty of high-energy workouts swinging around swords.

Fans of his TV work are definitely going to want to keep this movie, due March 3, 2023, on their radar. Other stars in the film include Hugh Grant and Michelle Rodriguez, the latter of whom confirmed Page's account: "You could wash clothes on 'em!"

Dungeons & Dragons star Hugh Grant reveals he was a Dungeon Master: 'It was more S&M than D&D'

When the cast of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves — including Regé-Jean Page, Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Hugh Grant, and Sophia Lillis — stopped by EW's video studio to talk about their new movie, the actors revealed how familiar they were with the fantasy role-playing game. While they all had varying degrees of experience, Grant surprised everyone when he joked that he used to be a dungeon master of sorts.

"Well, I was a Dungeon Master," Grant said dryly, before quipping, "but it was more S&M and less D&D. It's the English version."

DAY 2

Reunited! Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira surprise fans at Walking Dead Comic-Con panel with big Rick and Michonne news

The Walking Dead universe seems to be just as undead as the zombies haunting its heroes. During TWD's Hall H panel on Friday, former stars Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira surprised fans on stage to announce that they will be bringing their beloved characters Rick Grimes and Michonne together again for a new series on AMC.

The six-episode series will take the place of the Rick Grimes-focused movies announced back when Lincoln left the show in 2018. Gurira told the SDCC crowd that they owed it to fans to tell "the conclusion of this story of Rick and Michonne." Teasing that "there's going to be a lot more to talk about" next year when the still unnamed series makes its debut, Lincoln added, "I personally can't wait to get my cowboys boots back on and get the band back together."

Gremlins alum Zach Galligan is returning to the franchise in Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai

The Gremlins are back — and so is Zach Galligan, who starred as the original Billy in the Gremlins films. During the Comic-Con panel for the upcoming animated HBO Max series, it was announced the actor would have a recurring guest role as a character who is yet to be revealed. It was also announced that Sandra Oh, Randall Park, George Takei, and Bowen Yang are joining the cast, which includes Ming-Na Wen, James Hong, BD Wong, and Izaac Wang.

Someone who won't be returning for Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai is Howie Mandel, who was the original voice of Gizmo. Veteran voice actor A.J. LoCascio is taking the reins. While visiting EW's Comic-Con studio, Galligan noted: "The funny thing is that Howie Mandel, who voiced the original one, is a person I've never met in my entire life. I thought A.J. did a great job. It was actually fairly indistinguishable."

DAY 3

Star Trek announces Strange New Worlds crossover and other surprises

The Star Trek universe is boldly going where many a franchise has gone before: into the wonderful world of spin-offs and crossovers! During the Star Trek panel in Hall H Saturday, Tawny Newsome and Jack Quaid of Star Trek: New Worlds crashed the Strange New Worlds portion of the presentation to announce that the animated and live-action series will be having a crossover event later this year. Trek veteran Jonathan Frakes will direct the crossover, which will feature the usually animated actors in the live-action series.

There were plenty of other highlights at the panel: executive producer Alex Kurtzman said that two more Star Trek shows are in development; the Picard season 3 trailer revealed a first look at the epic reunion coming in the final season; and the room full of fans helped Paul Wesley, the latest actor to take on the role of Captain Kirk, celebrate his 40th birthday with a lively rendition of "Happy Birthday."

It was Marvel madness in Hall H!

Saturday's Hall H lineup clearly saved the best for last. The evening concluded with exciting news from Marvel president Kevin Feige about the studio's upcoming Phases 5 and 6. Roll up your sleeves, because the multiverse is just getting started — in fact, Phases 4 through 6 will be known as the Multiverse Saga, and there are plenty of updates about all the Marvel projects that have been percolating out in the sacred timeline.

For starters, Anthony Mackie's Captain America has an official name and release date, James Gunn shared some deets on the next Guardians of the Galaxy movie, and we learned that Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will kick off Phase 5 on July 28, 2023. We also got a new trailer for She-Hulk (out next month), Cobie Smulders teased Secret Invasion, and Mahershala Ali's Blade got a 2023 release date. Daredevil fans were also in for a treat when Feige announced that Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio will return for a new series, Daredevil: Born Again. Oh — we forgot to mention: There was also a Black Panther: Wakanda Forever trailer, and announcements that Loki season 2 and Echo will come in summer 2023, followed by Ironheart that fall and Agatha: Coven of Chaos that winter. Looking out even further, we now know we'll be getting Thunderbolts in July 2024 and Fantastic Four in November 2024. Phew!
