Hugh Laurie mocks Trump during Globes acceptance speech

Hugh Laurie accepted his third Golden Globe Award Sunday night, but he thinks it’s probably his last. In fact, he thinks it’s probably the last, thanks to Donald Trump.

“I can say I won this at the last-ever Golden Globes. I mean, it has the words ‘Hollywood,’ ‘Foreign,’ and ‘Press’ in it,” the Night Manager star began his acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series. “I also think to some Republicans, even the word ‘Association’ is sketchy.”

“I accept this award on behalf of psychopathic billionaires everywhere,” Laurie said before thanking key people involved with the project including director Susanne Bier, whom he said he’d “follow to the jaws” of hell. He didn’t mention Trump by name once, but joined host Jimmy Fallon in being among those who mocked the president-elect on Sunday night.

Laurie portrayed notorious arms dealer and global threat Richard Onslow Roper on the AMC limited series. The Oxford native beat out fellow nominees John Lithgow (The Crown), John Travolta and Sterling K. Brown (The People v. O.J. Simpson), and Christian Slater (Mr. Robot) for the statue.

The Night Manager was adapted from John le Carré’s 1993 novel, which follows the manager of a Cairo hotel who gets embroiled in an undercover arms deal. Laurie’s costar Tom Hiddleston was nominated for Best Actor, along with the series and Olivia Colman for Best Supporting Actress.

Laurie, who’s nomination this year marked his seventh from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, can currently be seen starring in Hulu’s original series Chance.
