James Franco wants Tommy Wiseau to walk the Golden Globes red carpet

How does director-star James Franco feel about The Disaster Artist, which details the making of the hilariously terrible movie The Room, securing Golden Globe nominations in the categories of both Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy (for Franco’s own performance as mercurial The Room director-star, Tommy Wiseau)?

“Oh, man, it’s amazing,” says Franco. “I mean, that was so gratifying. It was a movie that I brought to my old friend Seth Rogen to produce, and when we were making it, Seth kept saying, ‘This is insane!’ I always thought it was a great inspiring story but I guess other people thought it was just bizarre. [Laughs] But somehow we pulled it off.”

Franco continues to stay in touch with Wiseau’s Room costar Greg Sestero, whose memoir inspired the film, and who passes on a message from Wiseau via text as Franco is speaking with EW.

“This just in, exclusive for you, from Tommy,” says Franco. “He keeps asking Greg [adopts Wiseau’s famously unusual accent], ‘Do you think James will invite us to go to the Golden Globes? I wonder if James invite us for Golden Globe Award.’ So there we go.”

And what’s the answer?

“Dude,” says Franco, “if I can get Tommy on that red carpet there will be nothing better!”
