Nicole Kidman wins best actress in a limited series at Golden Globes

And melts our hearts with her comments about her mother and husband, Keith Urban

Nicole Kidman has done it again. After winning an Emmy for playing Celeste in HBO’s Big Little Lies, she’s now taken home a Golden Globe, for Best Actress in a Limited Series, for the same performance.

In addition to honoring and thanking her costars, including Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley, Zoe Kravitz, and Laura Dern (“Wow, the power of women!”), Kidman paid tribute to her mother as she accepted her award. “My mama was an early advocate of the women’s movement,” she said. “Thank you, Janelle Kidman, for what you fought for so hard.”

As Celeste, a woman living a seemingly perfect life but constantly covering up the bruises of her violent marriage to husband Perry (Alexander Skarsgard), Kidman captured the insecurity and pain in her character while also demonstrating Celeste’s strength that had been kept dormant for years as she raised her children.

Regarding the subject of abuse, Kidman added in her speech, “I do believe and I hope we can elicit change through the stories we tell and how we tell them.”

Lastly, she thanked her husband, Keith Urban. “When my cheek is against yours, everything else melts away,” she said. #CoupleGoals.

Watch Kidman’s speech above. The actress beat out The Sinner‘s Jessica Biel, her Big Little Lies costar Witherspoon, as well as Feud: Bette and Joan‘s Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon for the win.

Big Little Lies recently was picked up for a second season.
