Every year, the Recording Academy honors authors in the traditionally non-musical category, Best Spoken Word Album, and this year, several big-name celebrity memoirs are duking it out. Below, EW is excited to present exclusive excerpts from all five titles.

The nominees are Amy Schumer's The Girl With The Lower Back Tattoo, Carol Burnett's In Such Good Company, Patti Smith's M Train, and Elvis Costello's Unfaithful Music & Disappearing Ink. The fifth contender is John Doe's music history tome Under The Big Black Sun: A Personal History of L.A. Punk.
