Pink gives goosebump-inducing performance at the Grammys

Pink soared to new heights at the Grammy Awards on Sunday with her understated but powerful performance of “Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken.”

The singer was accompanied onstage by an American Sign Language interpreter, both wearing jeans and simple white tops during music’s big night at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The track — from Pink’s seventh album, Beautiful Trauma — was originally written for the 2015 film Suffragette, though ultimately it did not appear on the soundtrack. With its empowering message (“There’s not enough rope to tie me down/ There’s not enough tape to shut this mouth/ The stones you throw can make me bleed/ But I won’t stop until we’re free”), the song was a timely choice for the Grammy Awards amid the ongoing #MeToo movement against sexual abuse and harassment. Multiple celebrities wore white roses to the event in a display of solidarity.

Though Pink is among the artists whose most recent albums won’t be eligible until next year, “What About Us” — the lead single from Trauma — was nominated for Best Pop Solo Performance. The singer has won three Grammys from 19 nominations.

Pink’s new album picked up steam at August’s MTV Video Music Awards, where the singer gave a heartwarming speech about her daughter and self-acceptance while receiving the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. She followed that up with an acrobatic performance at November’s American Music Awards, where she scaled the side of a building while performing her song — and became a trending topic online as a result.
