Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos fought over pumping gas: 'You can't do that here'

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos may have a very different relationship than many couples. Most people don't host a TV show with their partner, for instance. However, they also battle it out over absolutely inane nonsense like everyone else. 

During Tuesday's episode of Live With Kelly and Mark, the cohosts revealed they argued about pumping gas during the starry-eyed early days of their relationship. "What do you mean you can't pump your own gas? I want to pump my own gas," Consuelos said, per PEOPLE. "You can't do that in New Jersey. We actually had a little squabble over that early on in the relationship."

Ripa did not disagree with his account of the story. "Yeah, you tried to get out and pump your own gas, and I was like, 'You can't do that here.'"

Consuelos said he thought the situation was "ridiculous."

The (maybe) fond recollection of their fuel-based tiff brought to mind even more shared vehicular memories for Ripa. "Also, if you'll recall," she said, "we had rented — and this is why Mark doesn't pay attention to details. When we went to the rental company to pick up the car, it was an iridescent purple car that sometimes looked green, sometimes looked yellow, sometimes looked purple. Do you know what I'm talking about? So, Mark didn't think that was a big deal...And I was like, 'We can't go home in this car. My parents will think something happened to us!'" She did not elaborate on what her parents might have thought happened to them.

Consuelos joined Live as Ripa's cohost earlier this year following the exit of Ryan Seacrest.
