Kelsey Grammer's BBC interview reportedly cut short by reps after voicing his support for Donald Trump

The radio host said the actor was "happy to talk about why he supports Donald Trump and still does in the coming election."

A BBC radio host has claimed that his interview with Frasier star Kelsey Grammer was cut short by Paramount+ representatives due to the actor voicing his support for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

The segment, which aired on BBC Radio 4’s Today program on Monday, saw Grammer reveal that the idea for the revival came after witnessing the success of 2018’s Roseanne reboot. (The series, which was canceled after star and fellow Trump supporter Roseanne Barr posted a racist tweet, was later brought back as The Conners without the actress.)

At the end of the interview, host Justin Webb asked Grammer, “You mentioned Roseanne early on, who had a great comeback but also was a Trump supporter. You were, at least you were, a Trump supporter. I’m fascinated to know if you still are?”

“I am,” Grammer replied, “and I’ll let that be the end of it.”

It wasn’t actually, though. Speaking to his cohost, Webb revealed that Grammer was down to discuss politics, but that reps involved weren’t so keen. “I have to say, actually, Kelsey Grammer himself was perfectly happy to go on talking about it,” he said. “The Paramount+ PR people, less happy that he talked about it at some length.”

When his laughing cohost noted that the network would be “really thrilled that you mentioned that on air,” Webb didn't sound too concerned.

“They decided that we’d had plenty of time for our interview,” he said. “But I should stress that he was absolutely perfectly happy to talk about why he supports Donald Trump and still does in the coming election.”

Representatives for Paramount+ and Grammer did not immediately respond to EW’s request for comment.

Grammer, who voted for Trump in the 2016 and 2020 elections, has spoken out about his affinity for the former president in the past. He previously described Trump as “a bit of a brat,” but noted that “in terms of policy, I don’t have a lot of problems with what [he] is doing" in a 2019 interview with BBC Radio 4, per the Irish Independent.

“We’ve witnessed in American politics the same basic language since Ronald Reagan has been attached to every conservative president,” he said at the time. “But this is the first guy that ever kind of fires back and so it’s really unpleasant and they thought, of course, he shouldn’t be elected anyway.”
