Laurence Fishburne joins The Witcher as fan-favorite Regis, season 4 plot details emerge

Netflix revealed new details around Liam Hemsworth's first season as Geralt of Rivia on the fantasy drama.

New intel has emerged surrounding Liam Hemsworth's introductory season of The Witcher.

Fan-favorite character Regis is officially making an appearance on the Netflix fantasy drama in season 4, and he'll be played by The Matrix and John Wick star Laurence Fishburne.

It seems the streamer is trying to keep this figure's true nature under wraps for those unfamiliar with the world of author Andrzej Sapkowski's fantasy novels. The only description of Regis provided in any official capacity is that he's "a world-wise Barber-surgeon with a mysterious past who joins Geralt on his journey in season 4."

First introduced in Sapkowski's book Baptism of Fire, there's certainly a lot more to this character, who has become a fandom favorite across the novels and games.

"I’m very excited to be joining the cast and look forward to exploring the wondrous world of The Witcher," Fishburne said in a statement.

Filming on The Witcher season 4 — the first without Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia — will start this spring with Hemsworth now in the Geralt role opposite Anya Chalotra, Freya Allan, and Joey Batey. In addition to Fishburne's casting, Netflix revealed a new plot description for this next era of The Witcher.

"After the shocking, Continent-altering events that close out season 3, the new season follows Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri, who are faced with traversing the war-ravaged Continent and its many demons apart from each other," it reads. "If they can embrace and lead the groups of misfits they find themselves in, they have a chance of surviving the baptism of fire — and finding one another again."

But before we get that story, The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep was announced as the next anime movie, based on Sapkowski's short story A Little Sacrifice. Doug Cockle, who voices Geralt in the video games, reprises his voice role for the movie, which will drop on Netflix later this year.
