Here's why Luke Bryan had an IV during Sunday's American Idol

American Idol viewers may have noticed a shudder-inducing oddity during its last audition-filled episode. Judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie spent the episode judging incoming talent, but as that was taking place, Bryan got an IV drip that Perry had recommended.

"This season, I was going to get vitamins into you, even if I had to stab you in the veins with them," Perry told the country singer as she had someone do just that. "After seven frickin' seasons, you ain't taken one of them."

Perry said that Bryan has resisted taking vitamins orally. So, she took matters into her own hands and got him an IV drip of vitamins. "I need Katy's vitamins, whatever you're on," Bryan said, agreeing to the stunt. 

"I told you!" Perry responded. "'Cause you won't orally take vitamins, we have to stick you with them."

While an IV might make some people squirm, Bryan handled it well. At least, he did up until the end when the needle had to come out, calling it the most painful part of the process.

American Idol continues its march toward crowning a season 22 winner on Sundays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
