Original Damian from Mean Girls crashes interview for new movie musical, recreates iconic scene

The North Shore High alum (a.k.a. Daniel Franzese) surprised the young cast and gave them his stamp of approval on Friday's episode of "The Drew Barrymore Show."

The current class of North Shore High just got a friendly visit from one of its most legendary alums.

Daniel Franzese, who played Damian in the original Mean Girls, crashed an interview with the new musical movie’s cast on The Drew Barrymore Show on Friday to give the film his stamp of approval and help pass out prizes to some lucky winners in the audience.

In true Damian fashion, Franzese made his arrival known by hiding out in the audience, donning a pair of sunglasses, and pulling his sweater over his head to recreate his iconic moment from the 2004 movie, shouting, “She doesn’t even go here!

He then joined the excited cast on stage, giving them all handshakes before pulling in host Drew Barrymore for a hug.

When Barrymore asked what he thought of the new film, Franzese had only positive things to say. “It’s amazing,” he replied. “This movie has meant so much to so many people, and to play this role that so many gay people saw themselves in before the world was really ready to see us all the time. It opened up a lot of doors for a lot of people.”

Turning to the cast behind him, Franzese said, “And the way you guys have taken it and brought it to this new place, I know it’s gonna just reach all the kids now.”

He then exclaimed, “I couldn’t wait to see it and it was so good!," adding that the film “for sure” has his stamp of approval.

After the commercial break, Franzese and Jaquel Spivey, who plays Damian in the new movie musical adaptation, helped Barrymore announce the two audience members who had each won a $2,500 shopping spree by reading out randomly selected seat numbers. When a woman stood up in excitement after her seat was called, Franzese praised her, yelling another of his classic lines: “You go, Glen Coco!”

But Damian wasn’t the only familiar face to spend some time with the Mean Girls cast on the show. Barrymore once again reprised her role as budding reporter Josie Geller from her 1999 rom-com Never Been Kissed — donning her character's wonderfully gaudy ‘80s prom dress, braces, and all — to ask Avantika, Angourie Rice, Renée Rapp, and Bebe Wood a series of questions, including what lengths they've gone to impress a guy.

“Oh my gosh, where to start?” Avantika, who plays Karen, joked. “I just moved to New York, so I acted like the trains were all messed up and [I said,] ‘I can’t figure out the subway system — you may just have to come pick me up!’”

“That’s just objectively hot,” Rapp, who plays Regina George herself, interjected as the rest of the cast began to laugh. “That’s fun.”
