The Discovery trailer: Robert Redford unveils the truth about the afterlife

Would you take your own life if the afterlife was proven to be real?

If you thought The O.A. was a trip, Netflix is about to throw you through another loop. The Discovery trailer sees Robert Redford, Jason Segel, and Rooney Mara in a bleak sci-fi film about the discovery of the afterlife and all the people clamoring to commit suicide in order to get there.

Redford plays the man responsible for scientifically proving the presence of "a new plane of existence" beyond death. "How can you keep a discovery so vital to our existence a secret?" he asks in the trailer. "We opened the door for these people. Now we have to show them what's behind it."

Segel plays his son, Will, who falls for a woman with a troubled past named Isla (Mara). By the looks of things, she may want to "get there," too. Riley Keough (The Girlfriend Experience) and Jesse Plemons (Bridge of Spies) also star.

Appropriately, the trailer features Mozart's ominous funeral mass melodies from his "Requiem in D minor," while the previous teaser tapped Roy Orbison's "Only the Lonely."

The Discovery, directed by Charlie McDowell (Silicon Valley), debuted at the Sundance Film Festival and it will now stream for Netflix subscribers beginning March 31. Watch the trailer above.
