Damien Chazelle, Ryan Gosling moon landing drama First Man gets release date

Damien Chazelle will launch Ryan Gosling into the stars once again.

On the heels of La La Land��s success at the Feb. 26 Oscars, where it won six statuettes — including best director — Universal has announced it will distribute the duo’s second collaboration, First Man, to theaters on the awards-friendly date of Oct. 12, 2018.

First Man is billed as a riveting account of of NASA’s mission to land Neil Armstrong on the moon, and will largely focus on the astronaut’s journey toward becoming the first person to walk on the celestial body between 1961-1969.

Adapted by Academy Award-winning screenwriter Josh Singer (Spotlight) from James R. Hansen’s 2005 book of the same name, First Man will “explore the sacrifices and the cost — on Armstrong and on the nation — of one of the most dangerous missions in history,” according to a press release.

Chazelle and Gosling will also produce the film alongside Temple Hill Entertainment’s Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen (The Twilight Saga, The Fault in Our Stars). Isaac Klausner (The Fault in Our Stars) is set to executive-produce, while DreamWorks Pictures will co-finance production.
