Calling all Marvelites. The first trailer for Thor: Ragnarok has landed, showing off the first footage of Cate Blanchett’s smoldering, devastatingly fierce Hela, a.k.a the Goddess of Death.

Despite the tones of Led Zeppelin, the stakes of the third Thor movie are dire: The trailer begins with the Asgardian Avenger (Chris Hemsworth) dangling in a dark pit by chains after an explosive encounter with Hela. As EW reported earlier, Thor has lost his signature weapon, Mjolnir, and now we know why: he didn’t misplace the artifact, Hela smashed it into a million pieces.

Now she hopes to do the same to Asgard. With Thor thrown through a hole in space to the barbaric planet Sakaar, “Asgard is dead,” she proclaims as a wave of fire and ash sweeps over Thor’s home world. Meanwhile, our hero is forced into gladiatorial games on Sakaar by The Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum), and he’ll have to face off against an old buddy, Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), in a plot that’s inspired by the Planet Hulk storyline of the comics.

Thor: Ragnarok is directed by Taika Waititi, known for hilarious indie material like What We Do in the Shadows and The Hunt for the Wilderpeople — and the new trailer already previews his signature stylings, especially as Thor calls Hulk a “friend from work.” Also spotted is Tom Hiddleston’s return as Loki as he battles Hela’s forces, as well as newcomer Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie on Sakaar.

In addition to the trailer, Marvel unveiled the first poster, featuring Thor’s new look.

Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on Nov. 3. Watch the trailer above.
