Patty Jenkins on Wonder Woman sequel: 'We're working on it'

Patty Jenkins will be known from here on out as the director who brought the record-smashing Wonder Woman to theaters. Given the film's impressive box office debut, a sequel seems inevitable, though Warner Bros. has yet to confirm the director's return for Wonder Woman 2. On Thursday night, Jenkins kept the sequel talks momentum going with Conan O'Brien, saying, "We're working on it."

Asked if she's coming back, Jenkins said, "I hope to, I love it, I love the world, and we're all really excited about it."

Gal Gadot headlines her own superhero movie with Wonder Woman, which tells how the DC hero left her idyllic island of Themyscira to defend those who can't defend themselves amid the throes of World War I. Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, and Robin Wright also star.

The film earned $103.3 million over its opening weekend, marking the highest-grossing domestic opening for a female director. On top of that, it's one of the best-reviewed superhero films of all time.

Jenkins already has ideas for the sequel. "The story will take place in the U.S., which I think is right," she told EW. "She's Wonder Woman. She's got to come to America. It's time." The filmmaker added, "I realized that Wonder Woman 2 is its own great movie. I made Wonder Woman. Now I want to make Wonder Woman 2. It's a beautiful story to tell, an important time to tell it and with people that I love."
