While Marvel’s first trailer for Black Panther dominated the airspace during the NBA Finals game on Friday night, another movie preview slipped in between commercial breaks. A new teaser for Detroit debuted with haunting footage of director Kathryn Bigelow’s film set during the infamous Detroit Riots.

“Being black is almost like having a gun pointed at your face,” actor Jason Mitchell (Straight Outta Compton) says in character.

The official logline for the film remains general, highlighting “a gripping story” set against “one of the most terrifying moments” of civil unrest, but the preview centers on an incident at a motel. Police, one played by Star Wars: The Last Jedi‘s John Boyega, swarm the vicinity and terrorize the guests. “I’m just gonna assume you’re all criminals,” says one racially motivated cop, played by Will Poulter (War Machine).

With a script by Mark Boal, who won a screenwriting Oscar for Bigelow’s The Hurt Locker, Detroit also features Anthony Mackie, Jack Reynor, John Krasinski, Kaitlyn Dever, Jeremy Strong, and more.

The film will premiere in theaters Aug. 4. Watch the latest teaser above.
