Deadpool 2 scores Hunt for the Wilderpeople breakout

Cue the whisper, "Ricky Baker!!"

Ryan Reynolds is living the Skux Life. If you don't get that reference, perhaps it's time to watch The Hunt for the Wilderpeople. The film's director is helming Thor: Ragnarok and now Julian Dennison, its young breakout performer, has joined the cast of Deadpool 2.

Reynolds made the announcement as he suited up as the Merc with the Mouth to give Dennison, the actor behind Ricky Baker, a piggyback. "Giving Julian Dennison a warm [Deadpool] welcome as we stare off into our beautiful future together," Reynolds wrote on Instagram.

Dennison confirmed the news on his own social media feeds, and Waititi is joyfully floored by the reveal. "Never in my wilderpeoplest dreams would I have imagined this picture existing. But…. Yessss," he tweeted.

The image also brings to mind a line from Wilderpeople when Ricky turns to his new "Crocodile Dundee" foster dad (played by Sam Neill) and exclaims, "Oh look, he's giving a pig a piggyback ride."

Deadpool 2 began shooting this week with director David Leitch. Though his character is under wraps for the moment, Dennison joins Zazie Beetz as Domino, Josh Brolin as Cable, and Jack Kesy as the reported villain.

The sequel will open in theaters on June 1, 2018.
