Charlize Theron says Mad Max prequel scripts were written

Charlize Theron is ready to go fast and Furiosa across the Wasteland again. The actress recently spoke about her desire to return for a Mad Max: Fury Road prequel and revealed that scripts have already been written.

"I'd love to," the Atomic Blonde star told Variety when asked about whether she'd want a comeback. "There were three scripts. They were written as back stories to Max's character and to Furiosa's character. But at the end of the day, this thing lives and breathes with [director] George [Miller]. I think Warner Bros. knows that. We are all waiting for him to show us the way."

Rumblings of a follow-up to Fury Road, sequel or otherwise, have been sounding since before the film hit theaters and became a box officer sweeper and six-time Oscar winner. Miller has been saying for a while that he has more ideas churning for the characters, and at one point he slipped the name for a potential sequel, Mad Max: The Wasteland.

"In this process, we had dug down deep into the backstory, not only of the characters, but of every vehicle," Miller said during a 2015 interview with Top Gear. "How the steering wheels became religious artifacts and things like that. We ended up with two scripts, without really trying. We're talking to the studio [Warner Bros.] about it as we speak, but which one of the two stories will happen next, I'm not so sure."

By the following October, he mentioned Furiosa was in one of the potential follow-up stories, but not in all of them.

"Her backstory is really interesting," Miller told EW's Jessica Shaw and Dalton Ross on Sirius XM Radio last year. "We only allude to it in this movie because this movie is on the run; people don't have much time for recreational talk. But you pick up, you have a sense of her having gone through stuff. That's what the film is trying to do. You're trying to put a lot of iceberg under the tip, I like saying."
