The Incredibles 2 will pick up immediately after the first film

When the sequel to The Incredibles hits theaters in 2018, it will have been 14 years since Pixar first introduced us to the Parr family and their set of powers. Ever since the sequel was first announced, fans have wondered what year it’ll take place in and how old the characters will be. (If Jack-Jack was a terror as a baby, just imagine him as a teenager.) Now, Pixar chief creative officer John Lasseter has finally addressed those questions — and revealed that the second film picks up right where the original left off.

“It starts right as the first one finishes, so it just carries on,” Lasseter told IGN at this year’s D23 Expo. He added that the sequel will begin with a major action scene centering on the Underminer, the cartoonish, mole-like villain who emerged from the earth in the last few seconds of the original.

“It starts with the Underminer and a big old set piece,” Lasseter said. “You know that at the end of the first movie when he comes up and you see the family dressed as superheroes, well that’s where [we] start this movie.”

Director Brad Bird is back on board for the sequel, which will once again focus on Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson), Elastigirl (Holly Hunter), and their three children: Violet, Dash, and Jack-Jack. (Samuel L. Jackson is also confirmed to return as the voice of Frozone.)

The Incredibles 2 is slated to hit theaters on June 15, 2018.
