Detroit debuts chilling final trailer for Kathryn Bigelow film

Kathryn Bigelow’s Detroit, set against the backdrop of the Detroit Riots in the summer of 1967, is about to hit select theaters this Friday. Before audiences can see the latest from the Zero Dark Thirty and The Hurt Locker filmmaker, one final, spine-tingling look has arrived via a new trailer.

EW’s Leah Greenblatt described Detroit as “an American horror story rooted so deeply and shamefully in home soil that it is still painful to watch half a century after the true events it’s based on took place,” and Will Poulter as one of the standouts of the film as a “chilling enigma.” We see a bit of that in the preview as his character, officer Krauss, breathes down the neck of a bloodied Anthony Mackie. “You don’t talk about this to anyone ever. You understand?” he says.

The film is filled with notable names, like John Boyega (Star Wars: The Last Jedi), Jason Mitchell (Straight Outta Compton), Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction), Ephraim Sykes (Hairspray Live!), John Krasinski (Amazon’s Jack Ryan), and Jacob Latimore (the impressive indie film Sleight).

At the moment, Detroit has a rare 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes with other critics calling the work a “powerful” and “intense” drama that “feels like a war film.”

After this weekend’s rollout, the film will go wide on Aug. 4. Watch the final trailer above.
