Javier Bardem is aflame in new poster for Darren Aronofsky's mother!

Earlier this week, we got our first little glimpse at the mysterious mother!, the new film by Darren Aronofsky starring Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Ed Harris. We know the full trailer will be arriving on Aug. 8, but to tide us over, the good people at Paramount Pictures have released a second poster from the film by artist James Jean, who also did the rather startling first one featuring Lawrence.

The tone is set for a psychological thriller, one we know is about a couple whose relationship is affected by some uninvited guests and will explore love, devotion and — uh-oh — sacrifice. But why does Bardem appear to be in flames in this latest artwork? Is he holding the world as opposed to Lawrence’s grip of a human heart? Why is the movie insisting on keeping its title lowercase with an exclamation point?

These questions and more will surely be answered when the film arrives in theaters on Sept. 15. Check out the new poster, featuring Bardem, below.
