Wonder Woman roller coaster coming to Six Flags

A potential path to the Oscars isn't the only thing Wonder Woman will traverse next year.

The popular DC Comics superhero will also ride the rails of amusement when San Antonio's Six Flags Fiesta Texas opens its Wonder Woman: Lasso of Truth roller coaster in 2018, billed as the first publicly rideable single-rail design (coasters typically run on two-rail tracks) from Rocky Mountain Construction.

Across the ride's twisty design, eight-passenger trains will carry riders over the 15.5-inch-wide steel track (which Rocky Mountain Construction has dubbed "IBox"), up 113 feet and down a 100-foot, 90-degree drop. "I expect it to be crazy smooth," Larry Chickola, Six Flags VP and chief corporate engineer, told USA Today of the new addition, which will debut nearly a year after Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins brought the iconic character to the big screen for a standalone feature this June. "And crazy fun. There will be extremely quick twists and turns – quicker and smoother than regular coasters."

While Wonder Woman: Lasso of Truth will be the first-ever of its kind to carry riders at a theme park, earlier this year a POV video (below) taken on a prototype of the new IBox ride system made the rounds on Facebook.

A relative newcomer on the coaster design scene, Rocky Mountain Construction, which launched in 2001, is the manufacturing company responsible for high profile park projects erected in the recent past, including Dollywood's Lightning Rod launched wooden coaster and several wood-to-steel conversion projects, namely Six Flags Magic Mountain's Twisted Colossus and Cedar Point's impending Mean Streak switchover, also scheduled to open in 2018.

Six Flags Fiesta Texas — which already operates rides themed to DC heroes Batman and Superman — expects to open Wonder Woman: Lasso of Truth next spring. Watch a preview video for the new coaster above.
