Wonder Woman Honest Trailer puts Diana in 'A Justice League of Her Own'

'She's the hero the DCEU doesn't deserve, but sure as hell needs right now'

After skewering Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad, ScreenJunkies’ Honest Trailer series tackled Wonder Woman and concluded Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince to be “the hero the DCEU doesn’t deserve, but sure as hell needs right now.”

Directed by Patty Jenkins, the film didn’t get away completely unscathed. The video, released Tuesday, addressed the naivety of Diana, the villains “pulled from a different, much campier movie,” how the audience is supposed to be believe Diana “kept her head down for all of Hitler and Stalin but did suit up for when Lex Luthor made a Ninja Turtle” with Doomsday in Batman v Superman, and the CG-heavy ending filled with “video game-level dialogue” from “a lightning hands mustache man.”

But, the narrator considers it “a flawed but important movie that’s no less important for having flaws.”

Giving Wonder Woman the subtitle “A Justice League of Her Own,” he says, “Patty Jenkins bravely asks the question, ‘What if a female-led superhero movie wasn’t absolutely garbage from beginning to end, and had a powerful message for girls: save the world, look flawless doing it, be a literal god, then men might begrudgingly half-tolerate your presence?'”

Glowing reviews from critics gave Wonder Woman‘s theatrical debut a boost as it quickly became the highest-grossing live-action film from a female director and the biggest DCEU film to date. Jenkins has continuously discussed her desire to make a sequel, and her return for the 2019 follow-up was made official earlier this month.
