Watch the trailer for Sam Shepard's final film, Never Here

Shepard stars alongside Mireille Enos in psychological thriller

Earlier this year, Hollywood mourned the death of actor and playwright Sam Shepard. Now his final film, Never Here, promises one last look at his performing prowess, and EW has an exclusive look at the gripping trailer.

Directed by documentary filmmaker Camille Thoman, making her feature debut, Never Here follows an installation artist, Miranda (The Killing‘s Mireille Enos), whose latest photography project involves documenting the lives of strangers. Simultaneously carrying on a secret love affair, her beau witnesses a violent act while peering out her apartment window, prompting Miranda to pose as the primary witness in order to protect his identity, feeding false information to police based on events she didn’t witness.

The film is billed as a “taut psychological thriller, with sumptuous imagery and sonic clues that steadily seep into the subconscious mind,” while exploring themes of “identity, voyeurism and loss of self,” per an official synopsis. The new trailer underscores those notions with several tense sequences and striking shots, including several close-ups of a mysterious person coated in thick black paint.

Never Here is scheduled to hit theaters Oct. 20. Watch the exclusive trailer above.
