Hatchet and Victor Crowley director picks the perfect Halloween movie

The Halloween season is upon us. But what is the perfect film to watch at this time of scooped-out pumpkins and terror-tale-induced panic? That’s the question we posed to Adam Green, the director of Digging Up the Marrow, Hatchet, and the Hatchet franchise reboot Victory Crowley, which kicks off a nationwide roadshow tour at the Alamo Drafthouse in Dallas tonight. His recommendation: the 1985 made-for-TV movie The Midnight Hour, which stars Shari Belafonte, LeVar Burton, Dedee Pfeiffer, Kurtwood Smith, and genre legend Kevin McCarthy.

“It’s a zombie movie, but it’s just so much more than a zombie movie, because of the spirit of Halloween,” says Green. “That’s my thing with Halloween movies. A lot of times, people just pick a great scary movie; I try to pick movies that are about Halloween and are set on Halloween. The Midnight Hour is way too good to have been a TV movie, and so many people forgot about it, but it is out there on DVD at least. It’s fantastic.”
