The Commuter trailer: Liam Neeson channels Non-Stop on a train

Commuting is hell. 'The Commuter' is hell for Liam Neeson.

In the latest trailer for The Commuter, Liam Neeson faces the ultimate horror: the New York City area train system.

Just kidding, because in this film his daily commuting routine goes a little off the rails when a mysterious stranger asks him to do "one little thing" that could profoundly affect an individual on his train.

Michael (Neeson), an insurance salesman, is asked by a woman (Vera Farmiga) to find the one person on the train that doesn't belong. That person, as it turns out, is "a witness who's in deep with the wrong kind of people" — and if he or she is discovered, that person will be eliminated. What ensues is Neeson going full Bryan Mills in what looks like the equivalent of Non-Stop on a train.

Farmiga's The Conjuring buddy Patrick Wilson, Sam Neill, and Elizabeth McGovern also star in The Commuter, which was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and written by Byron Willinger and Philip de Blasi.

"We just like to tell the same stories," Collet-Serra told EW of Neeson. "Obviously, he does other types of movies, and I do other types of movies as well. But we really like to have a movie once in a while where we just do what we like. And what we like is a very tight thriller. Something Hitchcockian and fast-paced, with good actors in it and good dialogue and an interesting premise. It's sort of like a little puzzle for the audience to solve. He enjoys those kinds of movies, I enjoy those kinds of movies, and we enjoy making them together."

The Commuter is scheduled for theaters on Jan. 12, 2018. Watch the new trailer above.
