Star Wars: The Last Jedi unleashes John Williams' score — listen

Many critics may be calling Star Wars: The Last Jedi the best since Empire Strikes Back, but what about the score? As the latest installment of the Skywalker Saga hits theaters this weekend, Disney and Lucasfilm released John Williams' full score for Episode VIII.

If you consider the titles of musical compositions to be spoilers, then reverse course and revisit after you've seen The Last Jedi.

The official soundtrack begins with the iconic Star Wars "Main Titles" and an "Escape," followed by pieces for "Ahch-To Island" (where Rey found Luke Skywalker at the end of The Force Awakens) and "Revisiting Snoke" (the Supreme Leader is played through motion-capture by Andy Serkis).

"Fun with Finn and Rose" points to the relationship formed between John Boyega and Kelly Marie Tran's characters, while "The Cave," "The Sacred Jedi Texts," and "The Spark" are all things fans have seen and heard in the trailers. Then, of course, there's the titular track, "The Last Jedi" (heard in the video above).

Williams, who composed the music for all of the Star Wars films, was nominated at the Oscars for his work on The Force Awakens. Though, he won his third Academy Award (of what would become five to date) for A New Hope.

Directed by Rian Johnson, Star Wars: The Last Jedi mingles Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Gwendoline Christie, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher with newcomers like Tran, Laura Dern, and Benicio Del Toro.
