The Last Jedi director reveals classic Star Wars Easter egg

You shouldn't have a bad feeling about this

WARNING: This story contains mild spoilers for Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

There are a few hallmarks of every Star Wars movie: There’s usually a quirky, wisecracking droid, the number 1138 usually makes an appearance, and more often than not, there’s a climactic lightsaber battle. There’s almost always an opening crawl (unless you’re Rogue One). Sometimes there’s a garbage chute. And in every single movie since 1977’s original film, someone has said some variation on the line: “I have a bad feeling about this.”

But viewers who saw Star Wars: The Last Jedi may have missed the iconic line. Still, director Rian Johnson is here to assure you that it’s in there — it’s just not spoken in English.

In an interview with HuffPost, Johnson confirmed that yes, a character in The Last Jedi does say, “I have a bad feeling about this.” It comes early in the film, as Poe (Oscar Isaac) and BB-8 fly into battle against the First Order. BB-8 chirps the line to Poe, who replies, “Hey, happy beeps here, buddy, c’mon.”

“It seemed like a fun character to deliver that line,” Johnson told HuffPost. “I think originally I had Poe respond, ‘Oh, I got a good feeling about it. Keep your chin up.’ And then I made it a little less explicit just to make it more fun.”

You can see all of the previous “bad feelings” in the compilation video below.
