Once Upon a Time in Hollywood trailer reveals DiCaprio, Pitt, and Robbie in Tarantino's world

The curtains on the long-anticipated pairing of Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt were finally lifted on Wednesday in the first teaser trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Earlier this week, DiCaprio revealed the first poster for the new movie, featuring him and Pitt’s characters lounging in front of a classic car, with the Hollywood sign in the backdrop. Margot Robbie also unveiled a new poster of her character Sharon Tate, standing wistfully in front of the iconic West Los Angeles cinema, the Fox Village Theater.

Set in 1969 Los Angeles, Once Upon a Time features DiCaprio as Rick Dalton, the former star of a western TV series, and Pitt as his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth, both struggling to survive in a Hollywood they no longer recognize. As they try to navigate their changing industry, Rick finds himself with an intriguing next-door neighbor – the beautiful Tate, who is set to be Charles Manson’s most famous victim.

“Actors are required to do a lot of dangerous stuff,” Dalton says in the promo. “Cliff, here, is meant to help carry the load.”

To which Booth adds, “What — carrying his load? Yeah, that’s about right.”

Set to the Los Bravos tune “Bring A Little Lovin,” the trailer sets the stage for the production’s campy 1960s look and its dark yet humorous tone. Despite the eerieness of a grinning Manson (Damon Herriman), the final shot of DiCaprio’s character welling up after a child actor compliments him on the “best acting” she’s ever seen conveys the film’s comedic edge.

For his ninth – and possibly penultimate – feature, Tarantino has assembled a talented sprawling cast that also includes Al Pacino, Bruce Dern (taking over for Burt Reynolds), Dakota Fanning, Timothy Olyphant, Emile Hirsch, Damian Lewis, Michael Madsen, Lena Dunham, Kurt Russell, and the late Luke Perry.

The film is set to debut on July 26.
