Here’s something you didn’t know…

On Tuesday, Lin-Manuel Miranda announced some more big names joining the cast of the upcoming film adaptation of his first Broadway show, In The Heights. Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Stephanie Beatriz has been cast in the role of salon worker Carla, while Rent‘s original Mimi Marquez, Daphne Rubin-Vega, will play salon owner (and neighborhood gossip) Daniela. Orange is the New Black‘s Dascha Polanco also joins as Cuca.

Also heading uptown with Beatriz, Rubin-Vega, and Polanco are the previously-cast Anthony Ramos, who will star as bodega owner Usnavi — a role Miranda himself played on Broadway — and Straight Outta Compton‘s Corey Hawkins as Benny. Mexican actress and singer Melissa Barerra was also announced as Usnavi’s love interest Vanessa, while Leslie Grace has signed on to play Nina. Additionally, How to Get Away With Murder‘s Jimmy Smits will play Kevin Rosario, Olga Merediz will reprise her Broadway role as Abuela Claudia, and Gregory Diaz IV will take on the part of Sonny.

With a book by Quiara Alegría Hudes and music and lyrics by Miranda, the stage show — which follows the immigrant residents of Manhattan’s Washington Heights neighborhood during one sweltering summer — won four Tony Awards and a Grammy. The movie adaptation begins production this summer in Washington Heights and boasts a script by Hudes with Crazy Rich Asians’ Jon M. Chu signed on to direct. The film is slated to hit theaters June 26, 2020.
