A Quiet Place Part 2 reveals first footage with Emily Blunt in sequel

John Krasinski returns to direct the film, which brings in Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou.

Whatever became of Emily Blunt‘s Evelyn Abbott and her children after they fought to keep their home from being ransacked by monsters? We’re finding out in the first A Quiet Place Part II footage.

Over the weekend, a teaser for the horror sequel, directed by John Krasinski, screened in theaters ahead of showings of Black Christmas. The preview was brief and showed a scene in which Evelyn leads her children along a trail of sand until it ends and they realize that, even though every sound threatens to alert the beasts in the woods, they have to keep going.

That teaser is now online for the masses with the full-length trailer arriving on New Year’s Day.

It hasn’t been long since the events of the first film, which introduced us to ferocious mutant monsters who hunt through their acute sense of hearing. It’s been a year and a half since A Quiet Place hit theaters, but for Evelyn, it seems like only yesterday that she gave birth to a newborn while—Spoiler alert!—her husband (Krasinski) sacrificed himself to save his family. So now, it’s just Evelyn, Regan (Millicent Simmonds), Marcus (Noah Jupe), and the baby. As you can, Evelyn’s foot is bandaged up, so it’s still healing from stepping on that nail at the end of the first film.

“Following the deadly events at home, the Abbott family must now face the terrors of the outside world as they continue their fight for survival in silence,” reads a new plot synopsis from Paramount Pictures. “Forced to venture into the unknown, they quickly realize that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path.”

Accompanying the video is the film’s first poster, which teases some of these threats through a glowing radio tower in the distance.

A Quiet Place Part II

The sequel now introduces Cillian Murphy to the mix. The actor from Peaky Blinders and Dunkirk plays a man with mysterious intentions who encounters the Abbotts. Djimon Hounsou also features.

“All [my character] wanted to do was survive,” Krasinski previously said. “And [Evelyn] says, ‘That’s not enough. We have to thrive. We have to let these kids be whole human beings’. And after I’m gone, I’m loving seeing Emily really battle with that — that maybe survival was the way to go. And maybe this idea of thriving was too dangerous.”

A Quiet Place Part 2 will hit theaters on March 20, 2020.
