Timothée Chalamet in talks to play Bob Dylan in new film from Walk the Line director

Timothée Chalamet might’ve just found the role that will get him his second Oscar nomination.

The Call Me By Your Name breakout is in talks to play Bob Dylan in an as-yet-untitled film from Fox Searchlight that will be directed by James Mangold, the studio confirmed to EW. The film takes place in 1965, when the folk legend made a controversial shift to rock and roll and the electric guitar.

Mangold has key experience making a movie about a musical icon, having co-written and directed the Johnny Cash biopic Walk The Line, which garnered Joaquin Phoenix an Oscar nomination, and Reese Witherspoon an Oscar win in 2006.

The last major project featuring actors playing Dylan was the high concept Todd Haynes film I’m Not There, which got Cate Blanchett an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in 2008.

Chalamet already has a big year ahead of him starring in the new Wes Anderson film The French Dispatch and director Denis Villeneuve’s long-awaited adaptation of Dune.
