Harley Quinn dumps Joker for the Birds of Prey in new trailer

Sorry, Mr. J. The girl just wants to have fun.

A recent interview, Birds of Prey star Margot Robbie confirmed the Joker won’t be appearing in her Harley Quinn-centric superhero blockbuster this year — that applies to both Jared Leto‘s and Joaquin Phoenix‘s take on the Clown Prince. But the latest trailer for Robbie’s Fantabulous film shows that he still has a part to play.

After all, a fiery breakup needs someone on the receiving end.

“This all started when the Joker and I broke up,” Harley says in the footage. “It was completely mutual.” By that she means she jumped out of a car as it hurtled towards doom. At least both ex-lovers saw fireworks in the end. The heartache didn’t last, however. She found a new crew to run with.

Birds of Prey sees all members of the titular DC Comics gang getting wrapped up in Ewan McGregor‘s Black Mask, who finally reveals himself in the comics-accurate black mask. Cassandra “Cass” Cain (newcomer Ella Jay Basco) robbed him, Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) betrayed him, Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) killed his best friend, and Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez) is working to take him down legally. That means a teamup is in order.

The Birds of Prey trailer also shows these gals in action, including Black Canary’s super-sonic scream abilities. Meanwhile, Chris Messina is off in the background causing mayhem with his blonde hair as Black Mask’s cohort Victor Zsasz.

The film, directed by Cathy Yahn, is set to hit theaters on Feb. 7.
