A flying saucer wreaks havoc in Jordan Peele's Nope trailer

The final trailer for Nope is bringing us lots of answers to the mysteries of Jordan Peele's latest horror film.

Throughout the marketing campaign, including past trailers and posters, all we knew about this cinematic terror was that it was hidden within a mysterious cloud that seemed to have a mind of its own and suck up people off the earth in cyclones. So, what exactly is this? If you guessed aliens, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding!

A giant flying saucer is terrorizing the residents of Haywood Ranch, Hollywood's only Black-owned group of horse trainers. James Haywood (Daniel Kaluuya) is convinced it was responsible for the death of his father, and his sister Jill (Keke Palmer) is determined to capture this thing on camera for the world to see.

It's about getting "the Oprah shot," Jill says in the footage, the shot that will make them rich and famous for life. Easier said than done, especially after the Haywoods tick off the aliens. Cut to the money shot of Kaluuya on horseback being chased by the saucer.

Peele, who brought us the Sunken Place with Get Out and twisted doppelgängers with Us, had previously explained the meaning behind the title Nope. "I love a rapt audience saying, 'Nope!' or 'Get out the house!' I love to encourage that interaction because that's what's giving the audience a unique experience," he said. "Rollercoasters aren't fun alone. Being scared isn't fun alone. You need that energy."

Universal Pictures also released a behind-the-scenes teaser for the film prior to the final trailer reveal. In it, we see Peele in his element.

"This whole film is as ambitious a cinematic event as I've planned so far in my career," he says in the video. "I tried to write a script. I didn't know how to pull it off and then assemble a team to help me pull it off. It's just, this is one of these days and these weeks where it feels really good to be a director."

Steven Yeun, Michael Wincott, and Brandon Perea also star in Nope, which is scheduled to hit theaters on July 22. Watch the trailer above.
